Above is a picture of a 3/4" Tube Burner built from the book Gas Burners for Forges, Furnaces & Kilns by Michael Porter.    I am now stocking all parts to build the 1/2" & 3/4" Tube Burners click on the following link to see the price list.
I recently sent Michael Porter the following quetion in an e-mail "I was wondering if you have a magic number of cubic feet or cubic inches that the 1/2" and 3/4" tube burners can heat efficiently.  It would be nice to give people a figure, because everyones forge design is different.   Any help here would be greatly appreciated." Michael replied "As to magic numbers, you may say that the 1/2" burner will heat a cubic foot handsomely, and the 3/4" burner will do the same for one-and-a-half cubic feet.  These figures are actually low.  They represent the smallest areas that these burners will take to yellow white hot in a properly built forge or furnace.   Since orange hot is all that is needed for efficient forge work, the figures are easily expandable by a third. This is close-up view of the accelerator used in the burners, I make them from a 1/8" x 4" extra heavy pipe nipple turned down on a lathe.

This is the burner tube for a 1/2" tube burner, the (4) 5/16" slots have been milled on a milling machine.
